What does the data you collect suggest to you about the literacy practices of that community?
With this part of the CLUE project I decided that it would be interesting to interview two types of individuals. I decided to interview two people who are very close to me in my life, my sister who is still in middle school, as well as a parent of one of my best friends. I felt as though these individuals were perfect candidates to ask questions regarding clubs and activities they are involved in since that is what my main focus for the CLUE project is going to be about. Something that stood out for me in the first individual is how active this person was in their community. This person was involved in several clubs and volunteer hours not just because they need something to do, but because they truly enjoy it. These clubs are geared towards helping their community in multiple ways such as through entertainment (through clubs like ski club and volunteering to help for concerts), as well as for the sake of genuine, kind, well-being (helping those who are underpriveledged). Though this person is no lonoger in school, it shows that outside of school, you can still be a member of the community. Also, when asking this person if they participate in voting, this is another way this individual plays an active role in their community. The second individual, though younger, this person is still an active member in their community through the use of participating in sports at her school as well as the communications club. Aside from going to school, this person chooses to be a part of these clubs because it allows her to stay active, meet friends, and is a good lesson on how to juggle more than one thing in life, therefore becoming a hard worker. All in all, I could say that whether you are a student in middle school, a college student, or an adult with a family, people find interest in being involved in clubs. IT gives people a way of fitting into their community, but it is also a sense of closure for people, knowing they are helping others, or maybe being in clubs to find sanity. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer when individuals explain why they are in the clubs they are in, everyone has their reasons, and every reason is logical.
